George H. Baranowski

Mr. Baranowski is the owner and Senior Examiner of Mindsight Consultants, in Michigan City, Indiana, which is considered by many to be one of the most active private polygraph firms in the Midwest. Mindsight Consultants provides polygraph services for both private and governmental interests. Mr. Baranowski holds an Examiner’s Certificate with the State of Indiana, as well as Certifications from the National Polygraph Association (NPA) and the Indiana Polygraph Association (IPA). He is a Forensic Interviewer and has a Forensic Law Enforcement Polygraph Examiner Certification from the American Association of Police Polygraphists.

Mr. Baranowski has an extensive background and an outstanding reputation as a skilled criminal justice professional. He has over 35 years of experience in a variety of disciplines relating to the science of investigations that includes former staff member with the Indiana Department of Corrections, retired Police Homicide Detective Sergeant, and after retirement, served an additional 12 years on staff with the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office as Chief Investigator before opening his private practice. In addition to his experience involving major investigations, Mr. Baranowski has testified in over a hundred cases either as an investigator, polygraph examiner, or expert witness.

Mr. Baranowski was formally trained in the polygraph technique at the Zonn Institute of Polygraph Science, Miami, FL. He brings his extensive years of law enforcement investigative training and experience to the polygraph field, which has proven to be an exceptionally rewarding blend. He has conducted thousands of polygraph examinations since 1985, and is thought of as one of the top examiners in his field.

George Baranowski is regarded as one of the pioneers in the field of sex offender testing, initiating a polygraph monitoring program for sex offenders in 1991 – before there was such a thing as “sex offender testing.” Such programs are now in place throughout much of the country that serve to monitor offenders who are in treatment and under court supervision as probation or parole.

It is of special distinction that Mr. Baranowski has served on the committee that develops standards for all examiners in the country and the polygraph profession since its inception. In 1997 The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), Committee E-52 Forensic Psychophysiology brought together a blue ribbon panel of well regarded federal, state and private examiners, research and technical scientists, instrument manufacturer executives and school directors for the purpose of developing standards for the polygraph profession. A number of standards have been developed and published through the efforts of this committee and the work continues. (ASTM is presently known as ASTM International). It is of specific interest that Mr. Baranowski is recognized for authoring International Standard Guide E-2080 entitled, “Clinical Psychophysiological Detection of Deception for Sex Offenders” published in 2000 and re-published in 2006 which serves as an international model.

Mr. Baranowski has lectured at the law schools of Notre Dame and Valparaiso, as well as the Universities of Indiana and Purdue. He has taught at polygraph schools and at national workshops, conferences and seminars throughout the United States and Canada

George Baranowski was elected President of the National Polygraph Association in 2006, and was re-elected President to a second two-year term in 2008. He has served in the past as Vice-President and Member of the Board of Directors of both the Indiana Polygraph Association and the National Polygraph Association. He has served two-terms as Vice-President of ASTM Committee E-52 Forensic Psychophysiology, and is currently the Sub-committee Chairman of Sub-committee .05 Psychophysiological Detection of Deception.
